Onthis day in 1941, “a day that will live in infamy,” a surprise attack by Japanese forces at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, thrust the United States into the conflagration of the SecondWorld War.
At anchor in the harborwas nearly the entire United States Pacific fleet. In the attack that lasted for just over one hour, severalships were sunk, two hundred airplanes were destroyed on the ground, and almost3,000 people lost their lives.
Seventy years later, Americans still remember–with solemn resolve, gratitude, and hope.
