T’was the run before Christmas<\/div>\n
and all down the road<\/div>\n
not a creature was stirring,<\/div>\n
t’was the runner’s abode.<\/div>\n

\n

The snow had been falling<\/div>\n
for many an hour,<\/div>\n
and it covered all things<\/div>\n
with it’s powdery shower.<\/div>\n

\n

Preparations were finished<\/div>\n
for our Christmas delight,<\/div>\n
I just needed to run<\/div>\n
before sleeping the night.<\/div>\n

\n

My footfalls were silent<\/div>\n
not a sound did I make<\/div>\n
as I looked left and right<\/div>\n
which path would I take?<\/div>\n

\n

But something inside me–<\/div>\n
for no reason at all–<\/div>\n
chose a new path ahead,<\/div>\n
the least traveled of all.<\/div>\n

\n

I ran down the path<\/div>\n
surefooted and strong,<\/div>\n
for somehow I knew<\/div>\n
that no foot would land wrong.<\/div>\n

\n

As I rounded a bend<\/div>\n
‘neath a moon full and bright,<\/div>\n
I was stopped in my tracks<\/div>\n
by a wondrous sight.<\/div>\n

\n

T’was eight tiny deer,<\/div>\n
and a sleigh colored red,<\/div>\n
and a bearded old man<\/div>\n
who seemed very well fed.<\/div>\n

\n

He was pushing the sleigh,<\/div>\n
pushed again, and then thrice,<\/div>\n
but it moved not an inch—<\/div>\n
it was stuck in the ice.<\/div>\n

\n

Then he looked up and saw me<\/div>\n
standing there, mouth agape,<\/div>\n
and he said “Can you help me?<\/div>\n
I’ve a bit of a scrape.”<\/div>\n

\n

“We’ve been working all night,<\/div>\n
from the East to the West.<\/div>\n
My deer need a break,<\/div>\n
so we stopped for a rest.”<\/div>\n

\n

“But now break time is over<\/div>\n
and just look what I’ve found–<\/div>\n
My sleigh is now stuck,<\/div>\n
frozen hard to the ground!”<\/div>\n

\n

“I know you’re a runner,<\/div>\n
not a magical elf.<\/div>\n
But we’ve something in common<\/div>\n
I’m a runner myself!”<\/div>\n

\n

“Although I look heavy<\/div>\n
and jolly, no fear.<\/div>\n
Tonight’s cookies did this,<\/div>\n
I’ll run it off by next year”<\/div>\n

\n

So together we pushed,<\/div>\n
with the deer pulling strong<\/div>\n
till we broke the sleigh free–<\/div>\n
got it moving along.<\/div>\n

\n

“Back in business!” he cried<\/div>\n
with a face full of glee<\/div>\n
“I’ve more gifts to disperse<\/div>\n
before morning, you see.”<\/div>\n

\n

“Many Thanks for your help,<\/div>\n
I’m not putting it mild–<\/div>\n
You’ve helped save the day<\/div>\n
for many a child!”<\/div>\n

\n

“Santa’s never met a runner<\/div>\n
that he didn’t like,<\/div>\n
so for your child at home<\/div>\n
here’s a shiny new bike!”<\/div>\n

\n

“And although you might think<\/div>\n
you’re too old for all that,<\/div>\n
I’ve some nice gifts for you<\/div>\n
hidden under my hat.”<\/div>\n

\n

“So here’s a Forerunner<\/div>\n
to measure each run<\/div>\n
and a shirt made of Cool-Max<\/div>\n
for your runs in the sun.”<\/div>\n

\n

“And some new running shoes<\/div>\n
the right type for your feet,<\/div>\n
and for tunes… an iPod<\/div>\n
(That’s really quite neat!)”<\/div>\n

\n

“Though it’s winter right now<\/div>\n
have no fear of a storm,<\/div>\n
for here’s Under-Amour<\/div>\n
to help keep you warm.”<\/div>\n

\n

“For you’re never too old,<\/div>\n
nor it too late to start,<\/div>\n
if the Magic of Christmas<\/div>\n
lives on in your heart.”<\/div>\n

\n

Then the deer they did leap<\/div>\n
and the man and the sleigh,<\/div>\n
took flight in a flash<\/div>\n
and went soaring away!<\/div>\n

\n

So I took these gifts home<\/div>\n
my heart joyous you see,<\/div>\n
for the Magic of Christmas<\/div>\n
will live on inside me.<\/div>\n

\n

His parting words filled my soul<\/div>\n
as my house came in sight–<\/div>\n
“Merry Christmas to all!<\/div>\n
And to all a Good Night!”<\/div>\n
