You might better add *God and Gold--Britain, America, and the Making of the Modern World* by Walter Russell Mead to that already over-weighted nightstand. He reminds me--at points--of both Johnson and Ferguson. Not every thing he says is agreeable, but he strongly makes the point about how Britain, the US, and the Netherlands all particularly changed the world, and changed it again, and defeated those who wanted to change it in worse ways. Powerful work.
